An Analysis of the Correlation between Totally Non-negative Matrices and Planar Networks

Totally Nonnegative (TN) matrices have been studied and used in the fields of computer vision, document clustering, big data analytics, audio signal and image processing. Through this research, we wish to examine some of the relations between these matrices and planar networks, which have been studied in detail from an altogether different standpoint. Our aim is to study the bridge between the two – a bridge which has unfortunately seldom been explored but holds the key to unlocking several interesting observations. With this, we can potentially use our knowledge of planar networks to construct and analyse these TN matrices in great detail, and gain some critical insight into the aforementioned fields.
